Testimonials

Our visitors love coming to Broadfields. See below some of the lovely feedback we have received.

Having swum briefly at Broadfields in the summer, basically head down front crawl in a wetsuit as part of my triathlon training, I decided to sign up for an introduction to cold water swimming course just to do something different through the winter.
Absolute game changer! Totally different activity from the summer. Head up breast stroke meandering around the lake in absolute harmony with the environment and nature. Calm relaxation at its very best.
The company of such a positive and friendly group of swimmers, lifeguards and volunteers adds to the experience.
I’ve still had the opportunity to drip feed my competitive side through the acquisition of winter and ice swimming badges which are great!
Who would have thought that the triathlete in me could enjoy the serenity of Broadfields so much

My very first dip into wild/cold swimming in a lake was at Broadfields. I had only started swimming at my local lido the month before but friends had organised a Swim at the newly opened Broadfields.
I tagged along very apprehensive about what I was about to do…. put myself in a lake, in the middle of a field!!!
Oh what fun was had, what friendships have followed. How my mental and physical health has flourished and how at home I feel at Broadfields.
The lake is a beautiful size, the fire pit glows and the site continues to develop but in a subtle way. The cosy cabin is perfect, with lovely conversations and banter to be had. The changing hut and the sauna being most wonderful additions.
Broadfields is a place to start, develop and fulfil your swimming and with it grows a sense of community and belonging.

In 2024 I lost my 20 year old daughter and our dog in a road traffic accident. Since then I have been on a mission to find things that will help me to cope. In August of last year I started wild swimming at Broadfields and have continued to do so throughout the winter. The benefits have been multiple. When I am in the water and for at least 24hrs afterwards I feel a renewed sense of purpose, a clarity and focus which most of the time is hard to find and a sense of peace and acceptance over what has happened. Physically I feel energised and strong. I am fortunate in that there there are still many things in my life I enjoy but the swimming stands out in that it gives me the strength to move forwards.

Cold water swimming? What is the hype all about. We did it as kids, nothing to it. Then why was I so reluctant to do it again? The thought of swimming in a cold freshwater pool in mid winter did nothing for me. How wrong I was. Broadfields is the perfect safe space to remind myself that I can overcome challenges like body/image shyness, feeling old and unvalued. Every time I swim is an affirmation that I’m still here, I’m alive and can make my own decisions – this is about me and the elements. The Broadfields team with their help and guidance, tips and friendship have made this such a special place – thank you!

Jenny, you don’t have to use this at all but the sentiment remains… thank you and the volunteers for creating such a great ‘family’. I didn’t realise I needed Broadfields until came for my first swim, which was a Moonlight one!
